In addition to the timeline which reuse Jira Issue hierarchies, from the version 1.4.47 Cloud and 7.0.0 for Server/Data Center we support the WBS Gantt, it maintains a custom hierarchy and provides advanced Gantt feature such as Critical Path, Baseline, Milestone

Initiate WBS Gantt

By default the WBS Gantt is enabled by default, when it is accessed for the first time the current hierarchy in Timeline will be copied and assigned the Work-Breakdown-Structure (WBS) number accordingly. The changes afterward will be maintain in the WBS order and not synced with Jira Issue hierarchy TImeline. WBS Gantt can be disabled by Jira admin or the board admin.

Go to Board Settings → Features

 

You can select to enable which feature on the board, Timeline and WBS Gantt both can be available together but to avoid confusion we recommend using only 1 on your board.

WBS Gantt features

  1. Full-screen mode: click on the button to maximize the Timeline view to full screen

  2. Today button: click on it to move the timeline focus to the current day.

  3. View mode: you can select Weeks, Months or Quarters view

  4. Refresh: retrieve the latest data and update the timeline in case you don’t want to refresh the whole page

  5. View settings: customize the display of the timeline

Work on Gantt

  • Drag & drop to change location and hierarchy

  • Resize or drag the bar to change plan

  • Link bars together to create the dependencies

 

 

  • Quickly create new Issue with its hierarchy

 

 

 

Manage progress

  • Slide on the bar to edit the progress

  • or edit it in the Issues table

Board admin can configure the Progress field in Board settings

 

Dependencies

Gantt chart dependencies refer to the relationships between tasks in a project schedule. These dependencies determine the order in which tasks must be completed, and often dictate the start and end dates of each task. ProScheduler supports four main types of task dependencies: finish-to-start (FS), start-to-start (SS), finish-to-finish (FF), and start-to-finish (SF).

Understanding and correctly defining task dependencies is crucial for ensuring the overall success of a project

  1. Finish-to-Start (FS): This is the most common type of task dependency. In a finish-to-start relationship, the completion of one task is a prerequisite for starting another task. For example, "painting the walls" must be finished before "hanging pictures".

  2. Start-to-Start (SS): In a start-to-start relationship, both tasks start simultaneously. For example, "digging the foundation" and "laying the pipes" can start at the same time.

  3. Finish-to-Finish (FF): In a finish-to-finish relationship, both tasks must be completed at the same time. For example, "writing the report" and "designing the cover page" must be finished at the same time.

  4. Start-to-Finish (SF): In a start-to-finish relationship, the start of one task determines the finish date of another task. For example, "installing software" starts and "training employees" finishes.

Dependencies on ProScheduler Gantt are maintained by Issue Links. On the Gantt area, connect the dots on the bars to create proper dependencies

 

Critical path

The critical path in a Gantt chart is the sequence of activities that determines the earliest completion date of a project. It represents the longest path of interdependent tasks that must be completed on time in order for the project to finish as scheduled. Any delay in a task on the critical path will result in a delay of the entire project completion.

The critical path helps project managers to identify the most important tasks and allocate resources efficiently to ensure that the project stays on schedule.

Click on the Critical Path button to show the critical path

 

Baseline

Gantt baseline is a snapshot of the current positions of tasks and milestones in the Gantt timeline, which can be placed alongside the chart at a future date. You can use the baseline to compare the current state of Gantt with the state at the time the baseline created

Create a baseline

 

  • Click on the Baseline and select New baseline then enter the name and create

 

Enable baseline

  • Click Baseline and find the baseline you want to enable and select it

  • Deselect the baseline to disable it

When a baseline is enabled you can confirm the baseline bars on the Gantt timeline

In the screenshot the gray thinner bars are the baselines, you can customize the color in board settings.
