Generic Resources

Generic Resources in TeamBoard ProScheduler can represent non-physical entities (e.g., virtual team members, placeholders for unassigned work) or physical assets (e.g., equipment, tools), which providing flexible placeholders used for task planning and resource management.

They help managers:

  • Optimize workflows by scheduling tasks without affecting workload metrics.

  • Early-stage project planning enables flexibility in assigning tasks for virtual resources.

  • Maintain efficiency by preventing resource interruption while executing the project.

  • Support flexibility for quick and easy task reassignment as projects progress.

Scope

Generic Resources are designed to be project-specific, meaning they are only available within the context of the project or program where they are created.

These resources are isolated and cannot be shared, transferred, or reused across multiple projects

Permissions on Generic Resource

To maintain consistency and control, management permissions for Generic Resources are restricted to only Jira Admin/App Admin, Board Admin, and Project Admin.

How to Create a Generic Resource

1. Creating a New Generic Resource

To create a new Generic Resource, please follow the below methods:

  1. Go to your specific Project or Program in TeamBoard

  2. Access the Resource tab from the board → Select Generic Resources from the dropdown menu.

  1. Use the search bar named ‘Create generic resource’

  2. To create a new generic resource, type a unique name for the resource in the search bar.

  3. Press Enter to complete the creation.

  1. Assign the Resource (Optional):

Once the resource is created, you can assign it to groups as needed.

  • In the Groups section, you can add resources to existing groups or create a new group.

  • Click the "+" button next to the group name to add generic resources

  • Then confirm the addition.

How to Edit or Delete a Generic Resource

To edit or delete a Generic Resource from the system → go to the Resources tab, and find the resource you want to modify.

1. Edit a Generic Resource

  • Click directly on the name field of the Generic Resource

  • The field will become editable, allowing you to type the new name.

  • After typing the new name, click the checkmark (✔) button to save the changes.

2. Delete a Generic Resource

  • Find the Generic Resource you want to delete → Click the X icon to initiate the deletion process.

  • When deleting a Generic Resource, you will be prompted to choose from the following options:

    • Reassign: Select a new assignee to transfer any tasks currently assigned to the generic resource (Refer to this guide to explore Reassign Tasks from Generic Resources to Members)

    • Delete: Permanently delete the generic resource without reassigning tasks.

    • Discard: Cancel the deletion process.
