Announcement: New Configuration for AssetIT Panels in Jira
In response to Atlassian's recent announcement that the External Asset Platform will be discontinued as of December 31, 2024, we’re excited to introduce the new Linked Assets panel along with an improved approach for configuring AssetIT panels in a Jira project. These updates make it easier than ever to set up and manage AssetIT panels within your Jira projects, providing a streamlined experience tailored to your team’s unique needs. (Read the Atlassian’s Announcement at: Update on deprecation of the External Assets Platform).
Important Note:
Until December 31, 2024, your current data in Atlassian’s External Asset Platform custom field will be synced to our Linked Assets Panel for seamless use. However, this is a one-way transfer, as the External Asset Platform field is scheduled for shutdown.
We recommend starting with our Linked Assets Panel now to ensure continued asset management without interruption.
What’s Changed?
Previously, enabling AssetIT panels required multiple steps through the general app settings:
Go to Apps > Manage your apps > AssetIT Configuration.
Select which projects to enable the panels.
Now, with this new project-specific setup, you can directly enable and customize AssetIT panels within each project’s settings. This change allows AssetIT to integrate more naturally with Jira, ensuring that essential asset information is available exactly where it’s needed.
Why This Matters
The AssetIT Panels offer seamless access to key asset management tools without needing to switch applications. These panels bring asset data and booking options directly into your Jira issues and customer requests, supporting a smooth and efficient workflow. By managing AssetIT panels within each project, you gain more control over how assets are linked, viewed, and managed in Jira.
New Configuration Process
You can now configure AssetIT panels directly within individual projects. Here’s how it works:
For Jira Software and Business Projects:
Access Project Settings within your Jira Business or Software project.
Toggle on Enable AssetIT integration for this project in the AssetIT Configuration section.
Choose specific Issue Types (e.g., Task, Epic, Subtask) and relevant Request Types to display AssetIT panels where needed.
Enable and customize panels such as Asset Booking, Linked Assets, and Resources Embedded for a tailored integration experience.
For Jira Service Projects:
Open your Jira Service project and go to Project Settings.
Enable AssetIT integration for the project to activate the Linked Assets Panel in the JSM Customer Portal.
Select Issue Types and their associated Request Types where the Linked Assets panel should appear, ensuring asset information is available for relevant customer requests.
Enhanced Panel Features
With this improved setup, AssetIT panels are integrated directly within the Jira project environment, allowing you to:
Request and manage assets without leaving Jira:
Link relevant resources to specific issues or requests, providing instant visibility and the ease of adjusting necessary information.
Display user-specific resources for more efficient asset tracking within issues:
