Dependency
What are Dependencies?
Â
Gantt chart dependencies refer to the relationships between tasks in a project schedule. These dependencies determine the order in which tasks must be completed, and often dictate the start and end dates of each task. ProScheduler supports four main types of task dependencies: finish-to-start (FS), start-to-start (SS), finish-to-finish (FF), and start-to-finish (SF).
Understanding and correctly defining task dependencies is crucial for ensuring the overall success of a project
Finish-to-Start (FS): This is the most common type of task dependency. In a finish-to-start relationship, the completion of one task is a prerequisite for starting another task. For example, "painting the walls" must be finished before "hanging pictures".
Â
Start-to-Start (SS): In a start-to-start relationship, both tasks start simultaneously. For example, "digging the foundation" and "laying the pipes" can start at the same time.
Â
Finish-to-Finish (FF): In a finish-to-finish relationship, both tasks must be completed at the same time. For example, "writing the report" and "designing the cover page" must be finished at the same time.
Â
Start-to-Finish (SF): In a start-to-finish relationship, the start of one task determines the finish date of another task. For example, "preheat the oven" starts and "baking the cakes" finishes.
